Sustainability and environmental protection are two issues that concern society and that need to be addressed urgently.
Artists from the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in cooperation with scientists – under the direction of scenography professor Angelica Böhm – researched whether art can be used to encourage people to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. Also the partnering Institute for Art and Innovation sees art as a driver for socio-ecological transformation.
One part of the festival is based on the art exhibition titled “Camilla Plastic Ocean Plan” addressing the topic of plastic pollution in the world’s oceans. In a transmedia storytelling it circles around a fictional little girl named Camilla who encounters plastic pollution with her companions. Their experiences are presented by more than 300 contributors, delivering the story in 3D, 360 degree film, AR, VR and sound works.
Another part of the festival focuses on the sensitization for environmental problems by the utopian view of sustainable futures. Students of the Film University launch their visionary future designs and visions for positive futures, that were developed in the frame of the “Art For Futures Lab” introducing visitors to the world of climate science fiction. Many of them have a local reference to Potsdam cityscapes.
The evening festival is preceded by a children’s festival “Kids For Futures Potsdam”. Students from the Film University (FUB) and the University of Applied Sciences (htw) in Berlin will set up a small theme and adventure park in front of the Filmmuseum. This is intended to introduce children to “plastic waste avoidance” in a playful way.
Background
Can we use the means of art to create desire and courage for changes that contribute to a more sustainable way of life? This question relates to the foyer exhibition that will open on June 30, 2022 at the Potsdam Film Museum. Works from the Film University Babelsberg by Konrad Wolf, which deal with questions of a future worth living, will be presented there in various art forms.
Vision and Mission
In cooperation with the citizens of the city of Potsdam, we want to contribute to positive futures through innovation and creativity! For this we translate a transmedia exhibition into an interdisciplinary happening.
